The Escòla Surbanenca is an independent laboratory and residency center for researchers, hosting the physical campus of the INTP. It is both a workplace and a living space for a few permanent residents and a rotating cast of visitors.

The Escòla is located in the small village of Surba, Ariège, in a valley in the French Pyrenees and close to the Spanish border (see directions).

Facilities

The center is a large private house and annexes, organized into three main spaces:

  • The Workshop: the central meeting and working space (5 rooms that can serve as offices or visitor bedrooms during larger events)
  • The Base camp: a communal living space (4 bedrooms)
  • The Cottage: a small independent house for groups of up to 4 guests (1 bedroom + 1 sofa bed, kitchen & bathroom)

In total, ten rooms can be used for accommodation of permanent and temporary residents. Other perks include a large garden with vegetables & fruit trees, sloping down to the nearby river.

Access: We welcome queries about access, health, inclusion, safety and any other topic that might impact prospective residents' interest and ability to visit us.
