On May 8, our friend Sébastien Ibanez, co-founder and member of INTP from 2020 to 2024, passed away at the age of 44 in an accident on the Aiguille de l’Olan.

Sébastien was an exceptional alpine ecologist, philosopher and mountaineer, as profound in his thinking as in his teaching, activism, and ability to confront extreme physical challenges. His latest work spoke to the Balance of Nature, to the virtues and pitfalls of understanding ecosystems as living entities or collectives, and we hope to continue down this path with all that we have learned from him.

Most of all, Sébastien was a remarkable human being, friend and mentor. Our thoughts go to his family, and to the many who crossed his path, got to learn from him and enjoy his warmth and support, and today mourn his tragic passing.
